Bio: Valerie Burke August 2022
Valerie Burke is a fine art photographer and educator. She lives in Fort Collins, Colorado with her family. Valerie has taught Photography at Columbia College Chicago and in workshops in the Chicago area as well as Colorado.
Valerie has always loved to experiment with photographic materials and processes such as the following: Cyanotypes, Lumens and Pinhole. She is now combining pinhole photography or the appearance of it, in her landscape photography. This exploration has led her to discover how the analogue and the digital worlds, though disparate, can be complementary.
Using an iPhone camera application to slow down a passing moment, Valerie has discovered new techniques of imbuing the landscape within an extended moment. The result conveys a nostalgic impression. That extended moment pairs with her love of pinhole photography.
In her recent work she is creating images around the theme of the Four Seasons. She has published a book, of one season: Autumn Passages as well as several handmade accordion fold books of the same images, which are backed with gold on vellum.
Valerie’s work has appeared in a number of gallery and museum exhibits nationally and internationally. The most current of which is at the Griffin Museum of Photography in a group exhibit: Enlighten work by the group Shootapalooza.
